Amy Maund - Winner of DesignOur Shirt

4 years ago   |   By Stephen Watkins

We’re delighted to confirm that Amy Maund, aged 16 from Hereford, has won the #DesignOurShirt competition.

A panel of judges including players Mark Wood, Danni Wyatt and Angus Brown, agreed unanimously on the winning entry.

Amy’s entry took inspiration from the incredible work of the NHS and key workers during the pandemic, the Black Lives Matter movement and the heroic efforts of the England Men’s team when winning the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup last year. Amy weaved in her own geometric design to make a truly unique shirt.

Amy’s love of cricket began when playing in the street with her brothers and playing Kwik Cricket at primary school. She attended Blackfinch New Road with her grandparents to watch both Worcestershire and England Women, as she looked to emulate some of her heroes.

She was later selected to play for Herefordshire County Cricket Club, where she had the opportunity to bowl at former England captain Charlotte Edwards. Last season, she played for Worcestershire County Cricket Club’s U17 team.

“My design was inspired by the heroic efforts of our NHS and key workers, as well as the importance of the Black Lives Matter movement. The competition gave me an opportunity to reflect on everything that has happened and why I love cricket and I hope you can see that in my design. It’s such an amazing sport and one that my whole family enjoys playing together!”

Mark Wood said: “Amy’s design was amazing! It represented how thankful we are to the NHS and keyworkers and how cricket unites us all. It was an honour to judge the competition and see such amazing entries – they were all far better than my effort.”

Danni Wyatt, England Women’s player said: “All the entries were wonderful. Amy’s design was so inspiring and it was full of colour – which I love to see. I wish her all the best and hopefully we’ll see her go onto bigger and better things in cricket.”

Angus Brown, England Physical Disability player said: “Amy’s design jumped out at us. The attention to detail was incredible and the inspiration behind the design was amazing. Go well Amy!”

The #DesignOurShirt competition invited entrants aged 16 and below in England and Wales to submit their designs of an England shirt, with the winning design being produced as a one off for the winner by official kit suppliers, New Balance.

The ECB would like to thank everyone who entered the competition. New Balance will be working on the design and production shortly.
