GB Liners Marches Div 1 winners Wormelow

Marches Division One champions Wormelow finished the season in style as they beat visiting Luctonians by 132 runs at Kennel Field.

After being invited to bat first Wormelow soon lost both openers to find themselves in a spot of bother at 34-2.  Tom Parry (28) and 15 yr old Archie Langford started to rebuild the innings putting on 69 for the third wicket before Parry departed.  Wicketkeeper David Thomas and Langford then took the attack to the visitors as they plundered 150 runs from the next 20 overs. Langford, who has been in good form this season for club and county, completed a superb century before he departed for 105 (9 fours, 1 six).  Luke Jones (42no) joined Thomas and some late fireworks saw the pair combine for a partnership of 93 from the final 7.3 overs of the innings.  Thomas became the second centurion of the day finishing unbeaten on a fine 103 from just 80 deliveries (11 fours, 2 sixes), Wormelow finishing on 346-4 from their 45 overs.  Matt Bengry (2-56) was the pick of the visitor’s attack.

The Luctonians reply got off to a promising start as Adam Gray (47) and Craig Lawrence (48) put on 93 for the first wicket, however once they were parted wickets began to fall on a regular basis with only Tom Williams (27) making a contribution of note.  Parry (2-34), Joe Snow (2-33) and skipper Tom Cutler (2-44) all picked up a couple of wickets apiece as Luctonians were dismissed for 214.

In Marches Division Two Wormelow secured runners up spot with an emphatic 247 run victory at Builth Wells.  Batting first the villagers racked up an impressive 294-4 from their allotted 40 overs.  Opener Cameron Edwards (120) was on top form hitting his maiden century for the club and he received good support from captain Dan Hale (45), Isaac Evans (31), Dan Hearn (25) and Neil Bloomfield (29no).  The Builth reply was soon stuttering as Bloomfield (3-16) and Eldho Mathew (2-8) tore through the top order.  Xander Elms-Lester (3-4) then picked up three wickets in an over and the Builth innings was brought to a premature end as they were bundled out for 47 inside 21 overs.
