🏏 Girls’ U15s Make History on First-Ever Isle of Wight Tour

Five games, three days and memories to last a lifetime

It was a tour to remember for the Herefordshire U15 Girls, who made history by embarking on the county’s first-ever girls’ cricket tour to the Isle of Wight.  The girls packed an incredible five matches into three days, combining some fantastic cricket with plenty of team bonding, beach trips and campsite fun.

After an early Monday morning start and a quick ferry crossing, there was no time to waste as the team went straight into their first game.

🌟 A Flying Start
Batting first, Herefordshire posted 88 from their 20 overs before putting the Isle of Wight under pressure with the ball.

S. Cale got things moving with two early wickets, before S. Peppercorn took 3 wickets and G. Harris 2, helping bowl the hosts out for 68 and securing a fantastic opening victory.

The girls made it two wins from two in their second game. Tight bowling reduced the Isle of Wight to 96-9, with I. Morgan and V. Holeman both taking two wickets. The chase was then completed in just 11 overs, with M. Stevenson contributing an important 29.

🏏 Day Two Challenge
Day two brought a 40-over contest. Herefordshire were bowled out for 135, with E. Parry top-scoring with 39.

Despite two wickets apiece for S. Cale and M. Stevenson, the Isle of Wight chased down the total to level the series.

🔥 A Final-Day Thriller
With the series finely poised at 2-2, everything came down to the final two 100-ball matches.

Herefordshire narrowly missed out in the first game, falling just 19 runs short of a target of 115. L. Chilman led the chase with 46, supported by a quickfire 18 from J. Langford.

That set up a winner-takes-all final game — and the girls saved their best performance of the tour until last.

Batting first, Herefordshire posted an impressive 179 from their 100 balls, powered by a brilliant 79 from S. Peppercorn and a fantastic late cameo of 46 from M. Stevenson.

The Isle of Wight fought all the way, but some excellent pressure bowling in the closing stages saw Herefordshire hold their nerve to secure a thrilling 10-run victory.

💚 More Than Just Cricket
Away from the cricket, the girls enjoyed trips to the beach and campsite activities, making the tour about much more than what happened on the pitch.

“This was the first-ever girls’ tour for Herefordshire and one we won't forget. The girls represented the county amazingly well, both on and off the field. It was lovely to watch them bond and grow in confidence as a team.”  Kate added:
