Herefordshire's Women Chase Down 253 to Beat Cornwall

HEREFORDSHIRE’S women produced one of their best performances yet as they chased down 253 to beat Cornwall with seven wickets and 14 overs to spare in their latest  Metro Bank One Day Cup Women's League 3 - Division 2A clash at Pentland Gardens.

Cornwall won the toss and elected to bat first, making a good start to reach 146-2 despite an early wicket apiece for Herefordshire opening bowlers Daisy Egerton (3-37) and Charlotte Roberts (3-55).

But after Ella Nicholas (75) and skipper Sanj Kang-Mullen (70) were separated, Herefordshire hit back strongly with further wickets falling to Florrie McKenna (2-14), skipper Chloe Tingle (1-21) and Georgie Williams (1-49) as the visitors were dismissed for 253 with nine balls of their allotted 50 overs remaining.

Herefordshire made a swift response in reply as Lucy Barnett smashed 11 boundaries in her 31-ball 47, sharing an opening stand of 103 with Mirre Van der Werf whose innings of 68 spanned 72 balls and contained 13 fours.

There was no respite for the Cornish attack after the pair were separated as Olivia Gough came in to stroke an unbeaten 66 from 78 balls with nine fours.

Gough was joined by Williams, who hit an unbeaten 35 from 29 balls, in an unbroken stand of 80 for the fourth wicket, seeing Herefordshire to a comprehensive win with time and overs in hand.

Herefordshire continue their 50-over programme this weekend when Dorset are the visitors to Eastnor.
