Worcestershire Veterans, National Hunt jockeys and club players combine in charity

A NUMBER of current and former Herefordshire county cricketers will be in action at Eastnor this weekend.

Worcestershire Veterans, National Hunt jockeys and local club players will combine to make up two sides on a charity fundraising day on Sunday with the beneficiaries including the Injured Jockeys Fund.

Current county wicket-keeper Luke Powell will be there to represent the

2023 side while Martin Weston, James Brinkley and Matt Rawnsley, who turned out for the county with distinction in previous eras, will also be playing.

A number of other former Worcestershire players will be turning out including Daryl Mitchell, David Banks, who is also one of Herefordshire’s coaches, David Smith, Chris Tolley, Ricky Ellcock, Duncan Catterall and Alamgir Sheriyar.

And Ashley Giles, the former England and Warwickshire left-arm spinner, who is now chief executive at New Road, will also be there to boost the Worcestershire contingent.

Among the jockeys who are hoping to take part will be Stan Sheppard, who has turned out regularly for Eastnor CC, and Richard Patrick.

County club players who are set to turn out include Duncan Morgan (Kington), Matt Bengry (Luctonians), Sam Griffiths (Goodrich) and Oliver Langford (Wormelow).

As part of the fundraising effort, there will be an auction where the lots on offer include a round of golf at Porthcawl GC, a ticket for four to Glorious Goodwood and a tour for four people of Jonjo O’Neill’s stable, including breakfast.

The match at Eastnor will be 30 overs a side with the action getting under way at 1.30pm.
